In an effort to protect the privacy of our members, we will no longer use Social Security Numbers (SSN) as subscriber identification (ID). The new subscriber ID numbers will be alpha numeric. For example: A12345678
ODS will begin transitioning groups to the ODS assigned (non-SSN) subscriber numbers on June 1, 2004. ODS’ goal is to transition all existing groups to ODS assigned subscriber numbers by January 1, 2005.
ODS will continue to receive and retain the SSN for all new and existing members to ensure we have a cross-reference for each individual. The SSN will be utilized for internal purposes only and will be suppressed on all external communications. This is beneficial if a member forgets their alternate ID and needs assistance from our customer service team. By maintaining both numbers, ODS can ensure the timely processing of claims, should a provider inadvertently or continue to bill under the SSN number. Since ODS assigns the new ID, our system supports the ability to go back and forth between the two numbers to ensure members receive the same level of service they are receiving today.
Members will receive new ID cards with the ODS assigned subscriber number, as well as a flyer describing the new number and card. It is important that members discard their old ID cards when they receive the new cards.
It is our goal to make the transition to the new ID numbers as smooth as possible. If you have any questions please contact your ODS Marketing Representative.
